Welcome to esophagealcancer.org The author of this website was diagnosed with Stage IIA esophageal cancer in January 2003. He created this website to assist esophageal cancer patients who are receiving, or who are eligible to receive, treatments intended to cure them of their cancer. More specifically, the website was created to provide these patients with information and advice concerning the esophageal cancer experience; to assure them that there is cause for hope; to encourage them to actively and aggressively participate in beating their cancer; and to urge them to embrace the life-changing opportunity present in the cancer experience. [Note: The content of this website is less relevant to persons who have been diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer. If you have advanced cancer particularly cancer that has been deemed incurable or untreatable -- your situation presents special circumstances that fall outside the purview of this website. Even if you are facing such a prognosis, however, you should not believe that you are without hope. No cancer scenario has a 0% survival rate, and that certainly applies to advanced esophageal cancer. (See section entitled “Survivor Testimonials.”) It is also possible that, despite what your doctor has told you, you still have some conventional treatment options available to you. If you haven’t already done so, I would urge you to immediately obtain a second (and even a third) opinion from a reputable cancer clinic with substantial experience treating esophageal cancer. (See section entitled "If You’ve Just Been Diagnosed") You should also ask your oncologist about clinical trials. You may learn about clinical trials from a variety of organizations including the American Cancer Society (800-227-2345) www.cancer.org; Association of Cancer Online Resources (www.acor.org); Centerwatch Clinical Trials Listing Service (617-856-5900) www.centerwatch.com; ClinicalTrials.gov www.clinicaltrials.gov; Coalition of National Cancer Cooperative Groups (800-520-4457) www.cancertrialshelp.org; EmergingMed.com (877-601-8601) www.emergingMed.com; and the National Cancer Institute (800-4-CANCER) www.nci.nih.gov/clinicaltrials.] You are requested to agree to two conditions before accessing this website. First, by entering the website, you acknowledge that the author does not purport to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, including esophageal cancer. Second, if you wish to adopt any of the author’s suggestions, you agree to obtain your doctor’s approval before implementing such suggestions. The author is not a doctor and the website reflects the author’s opinions based upon his own experience with the disease. If you agree to these terms, please enter the site by clicking HERE. |
